Lucas County Health Center is proud to team up with the Chariton Chargers’ softball team during its 8th annual Go Pink game on Thursday, June 9.
The game between the Chariton Chargers and Centerville Big Redettes is just a small portion of the action that will take place during that evening. Following the varsity game, a live auction will take place which includes pink softballs signed by the team, gift baskets created by each Charger player, as well as photographs of the team decked out in pink. The team will also be selling t-shirts, designed by them, with this year’s theme. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales and auction are designated to benefit the mammogram unit at the LCHC to be used to provide free or discounted mammograms to women who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
“The game is a way to get breast cancer information out to the community,” said Melissa Ryan, Radiology Coordinator at LCHC. “It helps us to raise awareness and show support for those affected by the disease and is an easy way for families to come together.”
In what has become part of a Chariton softball tradition, the Go Pink game gives the players and fans a chance to support the fight against breast cancer. At last year’s Go Pink game, the Lady Chargers raised $2,505.
The JV and Varsity teams will all be playing, and each of the games will begin with the opening pitch being thrown by a breast cancer survivor. Game times are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. for JV and 7:30 p.m. for Varsity.
