SHIIP/SMP

Through the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), LCHC Volunteer Services offers local residents counseling and resources pertaining to Medicare. We work to ensure you have the information you need to make informed Medicare decisions and prevent fraud. A trained volunteer is available, by appointment only, to discuss specific Medicare issues with individuals.

SHIIP is a free and confidential service offered through the state of Iowa to help people sort through confusing information about Medicare and health insurance.

We can help:

  • Explain your Medicare benefits and rights
  • Provide education and inform individuals of fraud and scam risks
  • Organize your medical bills and Medicare statements; file and appeal claims
  • Find assistance for programs that help with Medicare costs and Medicare drug plans
  • Assess your needs so you can make informed decisions about health insurance
  • Compare and evaluate Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans, Retiree health plan coverage, Medicare drug plans, and Long-term care insurance policies
