Lucas County Health Center (LCHC) is alerting the community to a phone scam that has been reported by several residents. Scammers are using LCHC’s phone number on caller ID to deceive individuals into thinking the call is legitimate.
During these calls, the scammer claims to be from Medicare and states they need to issue a new Medicare card. They then ask the recipient for their Medicare card number. This is a fraudulent attempt to steal personal information.
LCHC wants to remind everyone of the following important points:
- LCHC does not make calls regarding Medicare. If you receive a call about Medicare that appears to be from LCHC, it is not from us.
- Medicare will never call you to ask for your Medicare number or any other personal information. Any unsolicited call claiming to be from Medicare should be treated with suspicion and residents should hang up immediately. Remember, Medicare will not call you at home unless you’ve specifically requested a call. If Medicare needs to contact you, they will send a letter.
- Do not give your Medicare number to anyone who calls you unexpectedly. Protect your personal information to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.
LCHC is committed to the safety and well-being of our community. If you receive a suspicious call, please hang up immediately and report it to Medicare by calling (1) 800-MEDICARE.
We appreciate your vigilance and cooperation in helping to keep our community safe from scams.
