Lucas County Health Center’s ER and Ambulance Service has recently acquired the Handtevy system, a state-of-the-art tool designed to help emergency medical providers deliver faster, more accurate care for patients of all ages.
The Handtevy system combines a mobile protocol app with a color-coded equipment bag to allow first responders to quickly determine the correct medication dosages, equipment sizes, and treatment protocols based on patient age and weight. The system automatically adjusts for patient type—whether pediatric or adult—ensuring that critical interventions are both safe and precise.
One of the most valuable features is the ability for our ambulance team to prepare before they even arrive on scene. Using the app, providers can enter patient information while en route, allowing them to have the correct supplies ready and a treatment plan in place the moment they arrive. This proactive approach streamlines care and can make a significant difference during life-threatening situations.
The accompanying Handtevy bag is organized by age, so providers can quickly locate the tools they need. From airway equipment to IV supplies, everything is clearly marked and ready for immediate use, minimizing time spent searching for the right equipment during emergencies.
“Handtevy has transformed the way we approach emergency calls,” said David McCurdy, Ambulance Manager. “It not only speeds up our response but also ensures that every patient—whether they’re a newborn, a child, or an adult—receives care that is accurate and tailored to their needs. In critical situations, those seconds we save can truly make the difference.”
With the implementation of the Handtevy system, Lucas County Health Center continues its commitment to providing the highest level of emergency care to Lucas County and surrounding communities.
