LCHC Created $51.1 million impact on local economy in 2024

Last year, Lucas County Health Center generated 431 jobs that added $51.1 million to Lucas County’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. The study also shows the hospital provided $24.2 million in wages and delivered $3.0 million in community benefits, including 9,123 encounters through community service programs.

“These numbers reflect more than just economic activity,” said Lori Johnson, Chief Operations Officer at Lucas County Health Center. “They represent the care, programs, and jobs that allow us to support our patients and community every single day. We are proud to be both a trusted healthcare provider and a strong economic partner in Lucas County.”

The statewide report highlights the broad impact of Iowa’s hospitals. In 2024, Iowa hospitals employed 141,708 people, provided over $9.6 billion in wages, and contributed more than $22.9 billion to the state’s gross domestic product.

“These benefits aren’t just numbers,” said Chris Mitchell, IHA President and CEO. “They represent real programs and services that improve lives across Iowa. Many of these initiatives wouldn’t exist without the leadership and commitment of our hospitals and health systems.”

The Iowa Hospital Association is a voluntary membership organization representing the interests of hospitals and health systems to business, government, and consumer audiences.
