About The Lucas County Hometown Hero Award
The Hometown Hero Award was created to recognize an individual who has demonstrated exceptional courage, quick thinking, leadership, or dedication to the safety and wellbeing of our county.
In small communities, heroes don’t always wear capes — they wear uniforms, answer calls, step forward in emergencies, and sometimes simply do what needs to be done when others need help most.
This award honors one outstanding individual each year at our Public Safety Day event.
Who is eligible?
Nominees may include individuals who serve an organization in Lucas County in the following roles:
- Police / Law Enforcement
- Dispatch
- EMS
- Fire Department
- Civilian / Good Samaritan
Both professionals and private citizens are eligible. Nominees may be recognized for:
- A specific act of bravery or life-saving action
- Exceptional service during a critical incident
- Ongoing dedication and commitment to public safety
- Leadership that made a meaningful impact on our community
Selection Process
A selection committee representing local public safety and community leadership will review all nominations. Recipients will be selected based on:
- Impact on community safety
- Courage or initiative
- Service above and beyond expectations
- Demonstrated integrity and professionalism
Recognition of Nominees
While one individual will be selected as the annual Hometown Hero Award Recipient, every nominee will be publicly recognized.
All nominees will:
- Be acknowledged during the Public Safety Day ceremony
- Receive a certificate of nomination
- Be recognized for their contribution to our community
In a small county, every act of service matters — and we believe it’s important to honor all who are nominated.

Nominations are open to the public. Anyone may submit a nomination.
