What to Expect from Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab

By Millie Wood, Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Nurse

When you’ve been told you need cardiac or pulmonary rehab, it can feel a little scary. I see it all the time. My job (and my favorite part of what I do) is helping people realize that rehab isn’t something to fear. It’s a place to heal, learn, and build confidence again.

Cardiac and pulmonary rehab are designed to help people who have heart or lung conditions feel better and get back to doing the things they enjoy. Whether you’re recovering from a heart event, surgery, or living with a lung condition that makes everyday tasks harder, we’re here to help.

What Rehab Looks Like

Our program is very personalized and tailored to what you need. We take the time to get to know you, your health history, and your goals. There’s no pressure and no competition, just a plan that focuses on what you need at a pace that’s right for you.

When you come to LCHC for cardiac or pulmonary rehab, you can expect:

  • Supervised exercise to help build strength and endurance
  • Education on heart and lung health
  • Breathing techniques to help manage shortness of breath
  • Ongoing support from a team that’s cheering you on

During every session, we keep a close eye on how you’re doing to make sure you’re safe and comfortable.

Why Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Matters

Many people have concerns about being active after a heart or lung issue. Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab gives you a safe place to move your body, ask questions, and learn how to manage symptoms with confidence.

Over time, most patients notice:

  • More energy for daily activities
  • Easier breathing
  • Less fear about being active
  • A better understanding of their health

One thing we always want our patients to know is that they’re not alone in this process. Our team is here to support you, celebrate your progress, and help you feel more confident returning to your daily activities.

If you think cardiac or pulmonary rehab might be right for you or someone you love, talk with your provider or reach out to our team. We’re always happy to visit and answer questions.
