LCHC lab personnel conduct thousands of tests

Clinical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Clinical laboratory technologists, also referred to as clinical laboratory scientists (CLS) or medical technologists (MT), and clinical laboratory technicians (CLT), also known as medical technicians or medical laboratory technicians, perform most of these tests. Clinical laboratory personnel examine and analyze body fluids, tissues, cells and other body substances. They perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological tests using highly complex, automated and interfaced equipment, and kits. The individual tests that are offered in-house and by referral number in the thousands. The Lucas County Health Center Laboratory employs three clinical laboratory scientists,one clinical laboratory technician, three phlebotomists, and is supported by the emergency medical services personnel. The laboratory provides testing services to Chariton and surrounding areas 24 hours each day, seven days per week on a routine or rapid turn-around basis.
