There’s hope for people with non-healing wounds
LCHC opens special clinic in Chariton
Imagine receiving a cut or bruise that stubbornly refuses to heal. The days become weeks, and the weeks become months or possibly even years. You’ve tried everything, but healthy tissue and skin simply aren’t able to permanently reclaim the injury site. More than 5 million Americans suffer from chronic non-healing wounds that can lead to serious infection, gangrene or even amputation. And until now, Lucas County area residents had to drive out of town to receive the specialized care required to heal those wounds.
Lucas County Health Center treats patients in its Wound Healing Clinic using a comprehensive program designed to treat and heal patients with non-healing wounds. The LCHC Wound Healing Clinic, located at the Health Center at 1200 N. 7th St. in Chariton, offers individualized treatment specifically designed for each patient’s needs.
Under the direction of Neal Sokol, DO, FACOS, FICS, a board-certified surgeon, the LCHC Wound Healing Clinic medical team has been specially trained to concentrate fully on improving the wound healing process. The healthcare team includes Dr. Sokol, Cindy Salsberry, MSN, ARNP, Amy McCurdy, RN, and other skilled staff members. This expert team will also involve, as necessary, podiatrist Richard Spencer, DPM, orthopedic surgeon Ian Lin, MD, and physicians specializing in vascular medicine. LCHC Wound Healing Clinic uses the latest advances in wound treatment. LCHC is one of the few rural hospitals in the state to offer this unique therapy.
In addition to a comprehensive treatment plan, the patients are educated on their medical condition, nutritional status, how to assist in the healing process and how to prevent future wounds. The LCHC Wound Healing Clinic team works closely with each patient’s personal physician to keep them informed.
Patients interested in taking advantage of these healing treatments should ask their personal physician for a referral to the LCHC Wound Healing Clinic. For more information about the LCHC Wound Healing Clinic, call (641) 774-3245 or email amccurdy@lchcia.com.
