- upper extremity and hand rehabilitation,
- activities of daily living recovery,
- lymphedema treatment, and
- incontinence therapy.
Activities of Daily Living Recovery
Occupational therapists are trained professionals who can assist an individual after injury or illness to regain in his or her independence in activities of daily living. These activities include dressing, bathing, hygiene, feeding, toileting, cooking and cleaning. Our occupational therapist will assist the patient/family in modifing as necessary and restoring independence through patient education, caregiver education, training in adaptive equipment use, home modifications and task simplifications.
Upper Extremity and Hand Rehabilitation
Upper extremity and hand rehabilitation focuses on the functional recovery from an injury, surgery or degenerative disease process. Treatment is an individualized plan to help focus on gaining motion, strength, and coordination, and decreasing pain in the injured area, which in turn will improve independence with daily home and work activities.
Lymphedema Treatment
Our certified lymphedema therapist can help reduce swelling/edema with lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging, skin care and exercise programs. Common causes of lymphedema include surgery, trauma and radiation in a lymph node region. One in three women will develop lymphedema following certain breast cancer removals.
Incontinence Therapy
Our occupational therapy department is trained in the evaluation and non-surgical treatment of incontinence that can be accomplished in as little as 15 minutes per day. The program consists of muscle exercises and lifestyle modifications that can help decrease the frequency and severity of incontience - all without the use of medications or surgery!
